Health tech helps stroke patients in East Lancashire





Patients with long-time heart conditions in East Lancashire can now use a digital health service to monitor their condition at home and reduce their chances of having a stroke.

The technology – supplied by digital health company Inhealthcare – is part of a stroke prevention programme led by the Innovation Agency, the Academic Health Science Network for the North West Coast. It’s being delivered by staff from the Royal Blackburn Hospital and Burnley General Teaching Hospital.

The service is for people with atrial fibrillation (AF) and who are at risk of stroke. Patients with AF are usually prescribed the drug warfarin to prevent blood clotting. Those at risk of blood clotting have to attend medical clinics on a regular basis for blood tests to determine their correct dosage.
